Silver nanoparticles for the preservation of porcine sperm

Bacterial contamination of pig semen affects the quality and longevity of sperm and consequently fertility is reduced

Antibiotics have been used to prevent the growth of bacteria, but the emergence of resistant bacteria to these compounds is increasing.

Silver nanoparticles (NPAg) measure 10-20 nm in size and have been shown to have a biocidal effect on bacteria and fungi without toxicity to mammalian cells.
