The shipment was destined for a client’s farm, where the animals will be used for breeding and genetic multiplication.
Intradco Global, part of the Chapman Freeborn Group, has successfully completed the air transport of 1,200 breeding pigs from Denmark to the Philippines aboard a full chartered Boeing 747-400F freighter.
The shipment, carried out in July 2025, was destined for a client’s farm, where the animals will be used for breeding and genetic multiplication.
Animal welfare
Animal welfare was central to the operation. The pigs were housed in custom-built wooden crates fitted with oversized watering systems, ensuring comfort and hydration throughout the flight.
Intradco also used its purpose-built ‘pig lift’ vehicle, allowing pigs to be transferred safely into crates without navigating steep ramps.
Onboard, animal welfare was closely monitored by Intradco specialists alongside the client’s representative.
3 months of preparation
The project was the result of three months of preparation, including quarantining and a special diet for the pigs, and required careful coordination with multiple stakeholders.
A last-minute change of departure airport added complexity, but Intradco successfully adapted without delaying delivery.
Live animal air transport specialist
Founded in 1987, Intradco is the world’s leading live animal air transport specialist, trusted by zoos, aquariums, and conservation groups worldwide.
The company is part of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider with a fleet of over 200 aircraft and more than 250 subsidiaries globally.
Pig lift
Intradco’s pig lift comprises of a custom-converted van which has been modified to enable pigs to transfer from their lorry transport to their crates, at varying heights, without having to navigate any ramps.
Both the front and the back of the pig lift can be powered with the touch of the button to ascend and descend, to accurately meet the pigs at the level they are at on their lorry and the level of crate they are walking onto. Without such technology, pigs must walk up and down sometimes steep ramps, which is not only potentially dangerous, but can also be stressful for them.
The pig lift puts the pigs’ safety and happiness at the forefront of the process.
