The Agriculture Ministry defended regulated pig shipments to Selangor, citing established procedures and biosecurity safeguards.

Malaysia’s Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said live pig imports from Sarawak to Selangor have been subject to strict controls since July 2025.
According to Malay Mail, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the arrangement requires import license approval and compliance with established control procedures. He said the government had previously explained the policy through media reports and parliamentary responses.
Mr Chan also rejected claims linking the imports to the Sultan of Selangor’s royal decree. He said some allegations had been made without a complete understanding of the facts.
The deputy minister said Sarawak authorities publicly announced the initiative during an official loading ceremony at Pending Port in July 2025. He added that federal ministers had subsequently addressed the matter through oral and written replies in Parliament.
According to Mr Chan, live pigs imported from Sarawak must be transported directly to a slaughterhouse in Rawang, Selangor. The animals are not permitted to stop at other locations during transit.
He said authorities established standard operating procedures covering livestock handling activities at Port Klang. Unloading operations are restricted to between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Mr Chan said workers use specialized cages before transferring the pigs onto lorries bound for the slaughterhouse. He added that the procedures help reduce contamination risks and streamline transportation.
He also said claims regarding cleanliness and sanitation should be supported by facts and credible evidence.
Mr Chan referred to a working visit in April to a modern pig farm in Simunjan, Sarawak, that exports live pigs to Singapore and Selangor.
He said the farm implements strict biosecurity measures and uses livestock transport vessels that meet required specifications.
The deputy minister called on all parties to discuss the issue professionally and rely on verified information.
Separately, Newswav reported that Liberal Democratic Party leaders had warned that pig farm closures could weaken food security by reducing domestic pork production.
