A veterinarian-turned-entrepreneur, he pioneered pig exports and transformed Sarawak’s livestock sector.
Dr Gregory Ng Siew Thiam, a respected Sarawak (East Malaysia) pig farmer and entrepreneur, passed away at the National Heart Centre in Singapore on September 5. He was 65.
A veterinarian by training, Dr Ng entered the pig farming industry in 1994 at the Pig Farming Area in Pasir Putih, Sarawak. Over three decades, he transformed the sector through innovation, export expansion, and industry leadership.
In 2017, under his guidance, Green Breeder Sdn Bhd became the first Sarawak company approved to export live pigs to Singapore, a milestone that positioned the state on the regional livestock map. Most recently, on July 24, 2025, the company expanded its exports to Port Klang in Peninsular Malaysia.
He also founded Precious Food Products Sdn Bhd (Borneo Fresh Pork) and Eco Farm Solution Sdn Bhd, the latter pioneering the introduction of A2 dairy cattle in Sarawak and launching the production of A2 milk as a healthier dairy alternative.
Beyond his businesses, Dr Ng was an active voice in the industry. He served as secretary-general of the Sarawak Livestock Breeders Association and headed its pig farming division, where he worked tirelessly to advance standards, strengthen the supply chain, and promote the interests of farmers in the region.
Dr Ng is survived by his wife, Veronica Chew Ching Kwang, and four children. His remains were brought back to Kuching on September 7, with a wake on September 8 and 9. The funeral mass will take place on September 10 at St Joseph’s Cathedral, followed by burial at Nirvana Memorial Park.
In honour of his lifelong dedication to community welfare, his family will make charitable contributions in his name to several organisations, including SJK Chung Hua Siburan, the Sarawak Heart Foundation, Kuching Food Aid, and the Sarawak Society for the Deaf.
Dr Ng leaves behind a legacy of innovation, resilience, and generosity. His passing is mourned not only in Sarawak, but across Southeast Asia’s livestock and food industry, where he is remembered as a visionary who reshaped the region’s agricultural landscape.
