Taiwan’s regained disease‑free status opens pork export opportunities to Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with foreign buyers already inspecting facilities.

Taiwan Sugar Corp (TSC) is marking its 80th anniversary with ambitious plans to expand pig farming and prepare for international pork exports.
TSC announced construction of 13 new pig farms, scheduled for completion in 2026. The company aims to supply 500,000 pigs annually by 2030, strengthening both domestic and export capacity.
Taiwan’s regained disease‑free status—covering African swine fever, foot‑and‑mouth disease, and classical swine fever—positions the country as the only nation in Asia currently disease‑free. This unique status opens doors for exports to Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
Foreign buyers have already inspected facilities, signaling confidence in Taiwan’s pork industry. Orders are expected once supply and pricing conditions are finalized.
TSC Chair Wu Ming‑chang emphasized that while exports are important, domestic supply and price stability remain central. The company initially targeted 200,000 pigs for export, but this figure is under review due to tightening local supply.
Discussions with buyers focused on:
Mr Wu noted that balancing domestic needs with export ambitions will define the company’s growth strategy in the coming years.
To celebrate its 80th anniversary, TSC partnered with Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation to launch innovative consumer products. These include pork sausage flavored with kaoliang liquor, amber honey craft beer, and premium Guatemalan coffee featuring beans from the Cup of Excellence competition.
These offerings highlight TSC’s approach of combining traditional strengths with modern consumer innovation.
The regained disease‑free status gives Taiwan a competitive edge in Asia. By combining modern farming, export readiness, and consumer innovation, TSC aims to strengthen both domestic and international markets.
Mr Wu stressed that the company’s dual focus—meeting local demand while building export capacity—will guide its strategy as Taiwan positions itself as a reliable supplier of safe, high‑quality pork.
